Building a Foundation of Wellness with Preventive Care
At Etowah Animal Hospital, we believe the best medicine is prevention. That’s why we offer comprehensive preventive care for pets in Rome, GA, designed to catch issues early, support long-term health, and give pet parents peace of mind.
Why Annual Exams Matter
Routine wellness exams are the foundation of your pet’s health. These yearly check-ups help us catch subtle changes before they become serious problems, establish a health baseline, and allow us to monitor your pet’s wellbeing.
During your pet’s wellness appointment, our veterinary team performs a thorough nose-to-tail exam including eyes, ears, teeth, heart, lungs, skin and coat, and mobility. All of this gives us a better understanding of your pet's overall health, which helps us work together to keep them as healthy as possible for as long as possible. If we discover any unusual lumps, bumps, or other concerns, we will take the time to discuss it with you and determine next steps for testing and/or treatment.
For senior pets or pets with chronic health issues, we typically recommend exams and bloodwork every six months to stay ahead of age-related conditions and to provide effective medication management.
Wellness Bloodwork: Know What’s Happening Inside
Even when your pet looks healthy, routine bloodwork helps us monitor internal organ function and detect hidden issues early. These panels provide a vital baseline for your pet’s health and are especially important for senior pets, pets on long-term medications, and pets showing behavior or appetite changes.
Bloodwork allows us to catch things like kidney disease, liver disease, thyroid imbalances, and more—before they become advanced or symptomatic.
Vaccinations: Simple, Safe, Essential
Vaccines protect your pets from dangerous diseases. Our veterinary team will work with you to customize a vaccine schedule based on your pet’s lifestyle, age, and risk factors.
Vaccines For Dogs:
- Core Vaccines: Rabies, Distemper, Parvovirus and Leptospirosis.
- Lifestyle Vaccines: Bordetella and Canine Influenza
Vaccines for Cat:
- Core: Rabies and Feline Distemper combination (FVRCP)
- Lifestyle: Feline Leukemia (Core kitten vaccine with 1 year booster)
